I keep thinking the girls I raced with in 2010, the pro women from Utah that were the staples at every local race. Every one of us has had some major life changes since then. KC just had a baby a couple of weeks ago (congrats!). Jill had an awful crash last summer that left half of her face in paralysis, without sight and hearing on one side (this should all come back eventually). Sarah had mono then was hit by a car while riding. She has stayed at the top of the national race field, has become a coach and moved to Park City! Kathy's husband has also been battling cancer and Kathy hasn't been able to fit training and racing into her schedule much (quite understandably). Kelsy finished PA school and works full time now. As talked about on my previous post, Jen is kicking her second round of cancer. Erika P. crashed 2 weeks ago at the Canyons and broke multiple bones in her face. After facial surgery last week, her eye is currently sewn shut. She is in lots of pain and frustrated that she can't see. But she should make a full recovery. How can life be so tenuous and changing? I would have expected all of us to continue to line up every weekend for the ICUPs for the next 10 years. Now it's rare if even one of us does. These are the women that shaped my race career, the ones that inspired me to race harder and keep showing up. I admire and love every one of them even if I don't see some of them much anymore. I feel honored to have lined up with them multiple times. They continue to inspire me throughout all that is happening in their lives.
