September 19th mountain bike skills clinic
For my second clinic of the fall I kept it smaller so I could focus on these women that were trying to improve their skills but not thinking about racing. I was able to give them personalized attention and identify areas for them to improve. In the end they all improved dramatically and we had a blast!
Since we were a small group they each got to choose a pair of Julbo sunglasses!
Additionally they got socks, t-shirts and all sorts of fun swag from Jamis Bicycles, Stan's NoTubes, ESIgrips, Backcountry Research, Borah Teamwear, elete Electrolytes, Gaerne, Gizmo Socks, Kuat Racks, Backcountry Research and RxBars. My clinic participants also get discount codes to the above companies as well as LW Coaching, and Inside Ride.

USAC Article
USA Cycling Article:
(Sept. 3, 2014) – The first 30 Stars-and-Stripes jerseys were decided on Sept. 3 at the 2014 Masters Road National Championships in Ogden, Utah, as the bison-inhabited Antelope Island played host to the time trials competition.
Dean Phillips (Wenham, Mass./Fit WERX) took gold in the men’s 35-39 time trial, crossing in 44:22.15 and leading Jamey Yanik (Boise, Idaho), who finished in 44:38.10, and Stephen Haroldsen (Salt Lake City, Utah/Ski Utah-Plan 7), who wrapped up third in 44:57.64. Hometown rider Erica Tingey (Salt Lake City, Utah) paced the field on the women’s side in 49:11.89, besting Kathleen Giles’ (Monterey, Calif./Annapolis Bicycle Racing Team) 50:25.85 finish and Jennifer Schumm’s (Greenwood Village, Colo./Groove Subaru Excel Sports) 51:45.67 mark.
“It was really special,” Tingey said. “I wanted the Stars-and-Stripes really bad; I worked really hard for this. I haven’t really done too many TT’s before, honestly, but I knew I was ready for this one.”

Masters National Championships Road Race
Like the TT, the Masters National Championships Road Race was sort of a last minute planning and major group effort. Massive thanks to Jamis for sending the Xenith and to Stan's No Tubes for sending their ZTR Alpha 340's. My bike was so light, agile and stiff. The exact combination I needed to attack the last climb and put a 43 second gap on the second place!

Masters National Championships Time Trial
After 12 rides and on my new TT bike, I won the Masters National Championships Time Trial! So many people came together to get this to happen in such a short amount on time. This was an idea I had about 6 weeks ago. So then Jamis sent me the Xenith TT bike 5 weeks ago. Mt. Borah did a rush order to get the skin suit delivered a few days before and I got a hold of the wheels to race the night before! Jeff Louder spent some time with me dialing in my position and helping me figure out pacing and other details of the race. Then he came out on race day for race support and guidance. It made all the difference to have him (and his parents) there! I raced my heart and lungs out and couldn't be any more stoked about laying down the fastest women's time of the day by 1'14" at 49:11.
Stars and Stripes were earned. An achievement beyond any dream I could have hoped for just a handful of years ago!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 09/08/2014
Erica Tingey of Team Jamis Crowned US Masters National Champion in the Time Trial and Road Race
Two National Titles for Tingey – 2014 Time Trial and Road Race Champion
Salt Lake City, UT: The 2014 Masters Road National Championships took place in Ogden, Utah this past week. Team Jamis rider, Erica Tingey was crowned National Champion in not one, but two separate disciplines. On Wednesday, September 3rd, Tingey competed in the Time Trial event at Antelope Island, setting what would become the fastest female time of the day of 49 minutes, 11 seconds, a full 1 minute and 14 seconds ahead of the next fastest competitor. Tingey battled the heat and cross winds to secure the championship win aboard the Jamis Xenith T. Of particular note, this was Tingey’s first ever race on a time trial bike!
Just two days later, on September 5th, Tingey raced the 73 kilometer Road Race, starting and finishing at the Snowbasin Ski Resort. Staying with the main pack on the two laps around Pineview Resevoir, Tingey was able to set the pace on the final climb, whittling down her competition until the final few kilometers. As the road shot upwards, Tingey put in a ferocious turn that distanced her from the other competitors. She finished a full 45 seconds ahead of second place, earning the National Champions jersey once again and setting the fastest women’s time on the course. Again, this was Tingey’s first road race since becoming a professional mountain biker 5 years ago. She raced the Jamis Xenith with Stan's NoTubes Alpha 340 wheels.
About Erica: Erica Tingey has raced professionally for Team Jamis as a cross-country mountain bike athlete for the past two seasons. She has raced domestically, earning 3rd overall in the 2013 ProXCT and has also raced internationally at several mountain bike World Cups. Tingey is a wife and mother to a 6 year old boy.

Maiden Voyage on the Jamis Xenith TT bike
A couple weeks ago I rode my other new bike. Hello learning curve! The first few minutes on my new Jamis Xenith TT bike were a whole new experience on two wheels. Luckily I was at Antelope Island with no traffic because I was ALL over the road. I couldn’t hold a straight line to save my life. Then came the “decent”, ha! I was so scared to go down a hill without brakes within my reach, I sat up out of the aero bars to go down. By the end of that first hour I was feeling more comfortable but still not super stable. I went back out to Antelope Island (mainly because my power meter hadn’t been working and I had a very power specific workout) the next morning. I put 50 miles on the bike that second day. I hit the descent twice, the first time I rode it somewhat tentatively in the aero bars, but by the second time, POWER! I powered down that decent. It’s the same as a mountain bike! Keep your weight in the bottom bracket, lean the bike and look ahead. No big deal! Now….I LOVE THIS BIKE! LOVE! I love the simplicity of just putting out as much power as you can. That being said, I acknowledge there is way more to it than simply pedaling a TT bike in the aero position. There is much for me to learn here and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.
Maiden Voyage on the Jamis Xenith
My first ride on my Jamis Xenith was a recovery ride, so I didn’t put the performance of the bike to the test. The next ride though…oh boy! I had intervals with some quick sprints in them and let me tell you-this bike can SPRINT! I’ve since ridden it multiple times and I’m amazed at how much better this bike feels under me than my 2007 frame. The fit is much better and that becomes apparent when cornering, I’m so much more comfortable on this bike. I’m stoked on it, seriously stoked on it!
Whole9 New Zealand
I had the great pleasure of meeting the Whole9 contingent from New Zealand. Jamie Scott has been working with Dallas and Melissa for a while and officially became part of Whole9 2 years ago. Jamie and I connected via Dallas and Melissa and have been sharing nutrition and riding ideas (he used to race as well). He and Anastasia (his partner who is an MD in NZ who also promotes the Whole30/Whole9 lifestyle) came to visit SLC this past week. John and I were luckily enough to share sushi with them and review all things paleo, New Zealand (specifically Christchurch where Jamie survived the epic earthquake 3 years ago), Hobbits (Middle Earth) and bikes. Always bikes. These are possibly the smartest people I know. Now if I’d listen to all of their advice!
